Apollona village on Rhodes island

Another village in the mountains on the way to Embonas is Apollona with a charming main road. It's a great to have lunch in one of the flower covered tavernas. Life hasn't changed here for generations and it's a great place to stop off as you explore. There are herbs and superb wine from the surrounding mountains. There is a rough walking track to Profitis Ilias. (Approx. 1 1/2 hours) If you drive up to Embonas, after two kms, you pass the white Byzantine church of Moni Kariona on your right.
